2nd Annual 4th of July Family Fun Celebration Announced

RISON – The Green House Cottages of Southern Hills at Rison is currently collecting donations to support a community fireworks show that will be held on the evening of July 4 as an Independence Day celebration.

The fireworks show will coincide with Friends of Pioneer Village’s Second Annual Fourth of July Family Fun Celebration that begins at 6 p.m. at the Pioneer Village in Rison.

Crystal Freeman, who is collecting donations for the Green House Cottages fireworks show, said the size of the show will be directly linked to the amount of money they can collect. She said the fireworks are being purchased through a professional fireworks operator.

Last year, Freeman said they set a goal of collecting $1,500 for the fireworks. Freeman said they ended up exceeding that goal and were able to provide a show that lasted for about 20 minutes.

Freeman said she welcomes donations from businesses, civic groups, churches and individuals. To make a donation, contact Crystal Freeman at (870) 325-6202.

Family Fun Celebration

Before the fireworks at the Green House Cottages, Friends of Pioneer Village will be hosting the Second Annual Family Fun Celebration next door at the Pioneer Village.

Sharon Gray, president of the Friends of Pioneer Village, said there is no admission to attend and everything will be free at the Family Fun Celebration.

Activities include old-fashion games like a watermelon eating contest, horseshoes, hula hoop contest, bean bag toss, three-legged races and more. In addition, there will be free ice cream, hot dogs and more.

For more information about the festival, call Sharon Gray at (870) 325-6567 or (870) 692-3130.

Car Show

Last year, organizers decided at the last minute to add a car show to the list of activities for the Family Fun Celebration. This year, they are ramping up their efforts by offering prizes in hopes of attracting more cars.

Prizes will be awarded in the following classes: Classic, New (less than 25 years old), Tractor and Motorcycle. The entry fee is $20 for those entering before June 15, and $30 after that date. Each contestant will receive a gift bag. Trophies will be awarded for each class plus there will be a “Best of Show” award as well.
