Rison Spring Fest Planned

The Rison Shine Spring Fest, presented by Rison Shine Downtown Development, will be held Saturday, April 20, in downtown Rison.

Last year, Rison Shine Downtown Development discussed the idea of coming up with a spring festival to compliment “Rison in the Fall” that has traditionally been held in October. Out of that idea was born the first Rison Shine Spring Fest.

Rison Shine members Celeste Beatty and Rosemary Sinclair will be heading up the festival that will feature kid-friendly games as well as activities and attractions for adults.

Vendor booths will be available for $10. Sinclair said they are strongly encouraging people with homemade products like crafts, jewelry, soaps, lotions, etc. to participate as well as those offering “cottage foods” like homemade baked goods, jams/jellies, etc.

Sinclair said there will also be a plant sale at the festival with the Cleveland County Master Gardeners and others selling bedding plants and more

Since the event falls on Easter weekend, the spring festival will have an Easter theme.

The day will tentatively begin with “Flapjacks with Floppy,” a pancake breakfast with Floppy the Easter Rabbit to be held from 8 to 10 a.m. There are also plans to have Easter photos available with Floppy the Rabbit.

A community Easter devotional is set for 10:45 a.m. followed by the Rison Community Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m.

A special “Painting in the Park” class led by Rison High School art teacher Belinda Lawson will be held at 2 p.m. in the FBT Community Park in downtown Rison. The cost is $15 for supplies.

Sinclair said there will also be a Sidewalk Art Contest for all ages will be held throughout the day. She said participants will be given a square on the concrete sidewalk to create their own piece of art using nothing but chalk. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in both youth and adult categories.

Some of the games being planned include an egg roll down Main Street, an egg race, and the Bunny Butt Wiggle, among others.

Sinclair said they are reaching out to churches to help provide candy and plastic eggs for the community egg hunt plus help supervise the egg hunt and oversee some of the childrens’ games.
